Online training with TrueNAS – configuration, operation, and maintenance
A one-day intensive online training course led by our expert, recommended by TrueNAS, creator of the TrueNAS YouTube channel. Participants will learn the principles of system installation and configuration, ZFS-based storage management, data sharing (SMB, NFS, iSCSI), as well as backup and replication. The course also includes practical exercises and best administrative practices, so that after completing it, participants will be ready to independently implement and maintain TrueNAS in their company.
Training plan
TrueNAS configuration, operation, and maintenance
1. Introduction to TrueNAS
– Overview of TrueNAS types (CORE vs SCALE) and their applications
– System architecture (FreeBSD/Linux, ZFS as file system)
2. Installation and initial startup
– Hardware requirements (RAM, CPU, HBA, network)
– System installation (preparing the media, installing on the disk)
– Basic configuration after installation (IP addressing, GUI access, SSH)
3. ZFS basics and storage management
– ZFS concepts (vdev, pool, dataset, snapshot, scrub, ARC/L2ARC, SLOG)
– Creating and managing storage pools
– Configuring datasets and understanding properties (quota, compression, deduplication)
– Data protection mechanisms (RAID-Z1, RAID-Z2, mirroring)
4. Users, groups, and permissions
– User and group management in TrueNAS
– File permissions: UNIX, ACL, SMB ACL
– Integration with LDAP / Active Directory
5. Protocols and data sharing
– SMB configuration (Windows shares, ACLs, signing, performance options)
– NFS configuration (Linux/Unix, VM, multimedia)
– iSCSI configuration (disks for servers, hypervisors)
– Sharing via WebDAV / FTP
6. Backups and replication
– Snapshots: planning, lifecycle, file restoration
– Data replication to other TrueNAS instances (asynchronous, synchronous)
– Backup to and from clouds (Dropbox, Google Drive, others)
– DR (Disaster Recovery) scenarios

– Applications and containers (Docker on TrueNAS SCALE)
